What is an example of repentance?
Michael Beasley explains in this video that he remembers an example of repentance that involved a young lady that he and his wife had come to know. The Lord graciously opened the eyes of her heart and she believed in Christ.
On one evening, as they were studying the Scriptures, this young lady, a new believer, said, “I can’t live with my boyfriend anymore.” We were so thrilled. The Lord brought this about. The power of the Scriptures and the Spirit to transform her thoughts was amazing and overwhelming. She eventually married a godly young man. It is such an encouraging story. She showed the fruit of repentance as she continued to live her life serving Christ.
Acts 2:38 (NKJV) – “Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
In thinking about a story of repentance, something that I witnessed and was a part of was watching someone go through the process whereby God was bringing them to the conviction of sin. This was an unbeliever, a young lady that we had come to know. And as we got to know her, we realized that she wasn't a believer. We also learned that she was living with her boyfriend. And it was so interesting because the Lord was so kind and so gracious to save this young lady.
And he opened the eyes of her heart and she believed in Christ. And it's interesting because I remember my wife and I, we were sitting in the kitchen and we were talking to this young lady and we were just reading the scriptures together. And as we were reading and studying the scriptures together, she had this eureka moment and we didn't have to prompt her at all. She was just reading the scriptures and she just looked at us with eyes wide open and she just said, I can't live with this with my boyfriend anymore. I need to separate from him.
And we were just so thrilled. We were having to contain our joy. In other words, we were just so thrilled. We wanted to make sure that she understood that this was not a frivolous thing. This was a very good discovery for her.
And The Lord brought that about. The power of the scriptures, the power of the Spirit to transform her thoughts was just overwhelming to us. We were just so thrilled to see this. And so the outcome of this was is that She said, well, what do I do? And we offered our home to her and she came and she lived with us for a while until later on she was married to a godly young man.
And we were able to be a part of that and witness that. And that is such an encouraging story to me because again you see the power of the Spirit working and this is not just a momentary thing this is not again a sorrow that is temporary this is evidence of the fact that she truly was serving Christ repenting of sin and moving in the direction that God had ordained for her was very encouraging.
