What is an example of the joy that comes from repentance?

John Snyder explains in this video that an early English reformer named John Bradford is one of the greatest examples of repentance. During his life, he was betrayed by one of his co-pastors. In prison, he met other famous early English reformers and they were put into one cell together. It was a sweet time for them. Bradford is mainly known for his work on the doctrine of repentance. 

One person noted that Bradford would enter into his prayer closet and weep to such a degree that you would think that he could never be happy again. Later, he would emerge so happy that people who met him later found it hard to believe that he could be sad. 

Psalm 51:12 (NKJV) – “Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit.”

When the tides of fortune were changing within the church and the Roman Catholic church began to look for men like Bradford to imprison him, Bradford was betrayed by one of his co-pastors. In prison Bradford met other famous early English reformers and they were put into one cell together, they were given a Greek New Testament. So it was a real sweet time for them, they were able to speak about the things they were learning about Christ.

Bradford is mainly known for his writing on the doctrine of repentance. One person that knew Bradford and was acquainted with his own prayer life said this, that Bradford would enter into his prayer closet and he would break his heart and weep in repentance to such a degree that you would think that that man could never be happy again. But when he would emerge from his prayer closet, he emerged so happy and lived the rest of the day in the joy of the Lord to such a degree that people who met him later in the day would find it hard to believe he had ever broken his heart.
