How do we combat hypocrisy in our lives?

Kevin Swanson explains in this video that authenticity in the life of a Christian is a big issue. Hypocrisy affects every person. There are those who recognize their hypocrisy and repent and those who recognize it and don’t repent.

We all need preaching that cuts through layers of hypocrisy so that we might see the truth about themselves and God’s law. We need to press for truth in the inward parts. We need the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of people. We need preachers to bring about repentance by the preaching of the Word of God and the work of the Holy Spirit. 

Matthew 6:1 (NKJV) - "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven."

Authenticity is a huge issue because everybody is a hypocrite by nature. Hypocrisy affects every person. There are those who recognize their hypocrisies and they repent. There are those who recognize their hypocrisies and don't repent. And then there are those who don't recognize their hypocrisies and therefore don't repent.

What we want to see is people who see their hypocrisies. We want to see preaching that digs. Preachers like surgeons that can cut through layer after layer after layer of hypocrisy and chase it down and point it out in order that men and women might see the truth, the truth about themselves, truth about God's law, and how God's law, God's word applies to them. And we want to press for truth in the inward parts. Now of course that's not going to happen without the concomitant work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of these people we preach to.

But I do think that good preaching that just digs and digs and refuses to accept the hypocrisies of the nation, the hypocrisies of the Western Church and the hypocrisies of the homeschooling movement. It's these preachers that will bring about that repentance by the preaching of the Word of God and by the work of the Holy Spirit.
