How does reformation in the church or our nation begin?

Kevin Swanson explains in this video that reformation in the church or on a national level begins with reformation within the family. Our marriage, family life, and training of our children are gradually reformed as we increasingly conform our lives to Scripture. 

Reformation leads to us repenting when we see our sin and realize who we are as we sin against our children and spouses. We must simply look to God and cry out for His mercy. We do that in front of our families. There will not be a reformation in the church if there is not a concurrent reformation within the families that make up the church.

1 Timothy 3:5 (NKJV) – “[F]or if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?”

Family reformation is really repentance at the basic levels. Oftentimes we think of repentance as entire nations coming to repentance and a transformation of institutions. But in the case of family reformation, we're just simply calling for repentance at the very most basic elements of life. You know, it's in our marriage, it's in our family life, it's in our training of our children that we meet face to face our own lack, our own sins, our own failures. And it's right there that we repent and we see our sin, we realize who we are as we sin against our children, as we sin against our spouses.

So it's right there where we just simply look up to God and we cry out for His mercy and we say we sin here, God please have mercy on us poor sinners. And we do that in front of our families. We do it before our mates. We do it in the most basic relationships of life. And so really, effectively, family reformation is just repenting in the most basic areas of our lives, which inevitably will work out towards reformation and repentance in these other areas of life.

So we call people to repentance and to reformation at the most basic elements in order that we might more and more see a reformation occurring in other areas as well. I don't believe there will be a reformation in the church unless there is a concurrent reformation of family. And so, you know, we're not going to see strong preachers, strong pastors, good elders, unless we see men who have humbled themselves and repent and have come to the point where They are ruling their own households well, and they are walking in peace and love within their own households
