What is an important priority of fathers?
Don Hart explains in this video that repentance in the home sometimes can start with a repentant Christian father -- a man who is not afraid to apologize for what he has done.
Repentance in the home starts with people who are truly repentant. That is true humility. Pride is the enemy of that. For our children to admit that they’re wrong, it sure helps them to see their father set an example of humble repentance.
Ephesians 6:4 (NKJV) – “And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.”
I need repentance as much as my children, more than my children. And so repentance in the home, it looks like a repentant Christian father. It's a man who's not afraid to say, I'm sorry, I blew that. I couldn't have done that more wrong. I just treated your mom wrong.
I just responded to you in anger. I just was more concerned about what the world was going to think of me because of what you did than I was about what God thought of what you did. I really believe that homes that have true repentance, They need to start with fathers who are truly repentant and that's humility. Pride is a great enemy of true repentance And for our children to be humble and willing to admit they're wrong, it sure helps for them to see fathers model that, not just preach it. Repentance in the Home, I think very often is a top-down sort of an event.
It needs to start and be driven by a father with a tender heart, toward his wife, toward his children, and with humility, who's willing to admit, hey, I need to repent. I need to turn in a different direction.
