What are the fruits of repentance?
Rob Ventura explains in this video that some of the fruits of repentance involve a fresh and renewed communion and fellowship with God and a conscience void of offense.
One of the worst things a Christian can have is a bad conscience. We must confess sin to God. Those who cover sin will not prosper. We keep a good conscience through repentance.
It is important to understand that repentance is not merely saying, “I’m sorry.” We must say, “I’ve sinned against you.” We must turn from sin. A false repentance will yield very little fruit. True biblical repentance will yield much fruit.
Proverbs 28:13 (NKJV) – “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”
The fruit of true repentance The fruit of true repentance Certainly in the one guy we said for a deacon That was really the stamp which allowed us to go forward with him becoming a deacon, you know, in our own lives. Let's just talk about our own lives. What type of fruit do we see? Anytime God, again, is putting his finger on something in our lives that is not right according to his word, when we repent what do we receive from God? Fresh communion, fresh union, fresh forgiveness, fresh pardon.
There's a conscience void of offense. When we talk about repentance, again, we have to remember that God works with the conscience. Paul talks about, in the book of Acts, striving to have a conscience void of offense towards God and man. And one of the worst things that a Christian can have is a bad conscience. But how do we get a good conscience?
Here's the point. By repenting of our sins and confessing those things to God, again, knowing that he that covers his sin will not prosper, but he that confesses and forsakes shall find mercy. So the fruit of repentance is a restored communion with God, fellowship with him, perhaps a freshened filling of the Holy Spirit. Maybe the preacher was in sin and he's preaching, he's wondering why are my sermons falling flat? Why are people not being blessed?
And then maybe there's a sin in this life that was going on, whatever it might be, pride or whatever. And then the guy repents of his sins before God and he comes out and he preaches and people say, Pastor, what's going on with you? I'm really sensing God using you in ways that I haven't seen before. Well, pastors sin too, unfortunately, and it's this whole matter of keeping a good conscience before God through repentance that helps our walk with him an amazing fruit. People need to be taught about what biblical repentance is.
Again as I said earlier it's not just I'm sorry it's I've sinned. I'm sorry tells me how you feel, but when you say I've sinned against you, you're looking at your brother in the eye, or your sister in the Lord, or your spouse, etc. That's really where we get cut to the quick and we begin to live a life of holiness, which is a fruit of repentance. So a false repentance will yield very little fruit, but a true biblical repentance will yield fruit a hundredfold. You
