Why is the need for repentance sometimes disregarded?

Anthony Mathenia explains in this video that many churches in our day ignore the need for reforms primarily because they are more concerned about pleasing people than they are of pleasing God.

We default to self-preservation. Repentance is not always easy. It is much easier to simply do what we have always done. We must be servants of God and do what Scripture requires. 

1 Thessalonians 4:1-2 (NKJV) - "Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God; for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus."

Churches in our day ignore the need for important reforms primarily as a result of being concerned about pleasing people more than pleasing God. Unfortunately, we as humans are really concerned with ourselves and we default to self-preservation first. And repentance is not always easy. There has to be faith mixed with it to believe that it's for our good. So oftentimes we think it'll just be easier if I don't reform this area of my life or my church or my family.

I'll just give in to the cultural norm, to the status quo, and settle with that. We have to fight the self-preservation. We have to fight the self-pleasing. We have to be servants of God rather than servants of men and do what the Scriptures require.
