What is an example of repentance in Scripture?

Paul Thompson explains in this video that an example of repentance in Scripture involves an Ethiopian traveling in the desert and reading Scripture. Through the providential hand of God, the Ethiopian is longing to know who Christ is.

Philip "preached Jesus" to the Ethiopian eunuch. Afterwards, that man desired and longed to be right with God and asked to be baptized. This an example of true repentance. He realized who he was, his sinfulness, who God is, and his need for God.

Acts 8:34-38 (NKJV) – “So the eunuch answered Philip and said, “I ask you, of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?” Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him. Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” 

Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.”

True repentance is sweet. We experience it in our own lives, in our journey with the Lord, but we see in Scripture. Perhaps one of the most sweetest is that Ethiopian traveling out in the desert and he's reading Scripture and as he's reading Scripture he asked questions that roll through his mind. Through the providential hand of God and the movement of the Spirit sends Philip out to that place in the desert. And it is very clear that this Ethiopian is longing to want to know who this Christ is.

He wants to know who this Redeemer is. And so as Philip has the occasion to share with him the truth, he desires and longs to be right with God. I think that that's one of many occasions where we see in Scripture of a true act of repentance, of realizing who this God is and who we are.
