What is an example of false repentance?

Don Hart explains in this video that Judas is an example of a person demonstrating false repentance. He showed worldly sorrow instead of godly sorrow. His sorrow did lead to action, but it was sinful. 

While some might argue that taking his own life demonstrated repentance, this is wrong. He tried to pay for his sin himself instead of repenting of his sin and running to Christ for forgiveness.     

Matthew 27:3-5 (NKJV) - Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4 saying, ‘I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.’ And they said, ‘What is that to us? You see to it!’ Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.”

One of the things that leaps to mind for me when I think about a false appearance of repentance is Judas. I think there you see worldly sorrow versus godly sorrow. You see a sorrow that led to action on his part which was sinful. I don't know that repentance is the best description for what went on there. Perhaps it's something that is more a distinction between worldly sorrow and godly sorrow.

But as I think about that question, Judas is one of the examples. Some might say, well, how could a man be more sorrowful than to take his own life? Doesn't that indicate that he was repentant? No. Repentance follows Christ.

It's not the ultimate human definition of some kind of sacrifice or drastic act. That's not true repentance.
