What is an example of repentance?
Rob Ventura explains in this video that there was a man that he knew who was hoping to become a deacon but even though he met every qualification, he struggled with gluttony.
He was a man of God who feared God. After being spoke to by the elders in the church, he repented. He quickly took steps to make a complete change of direction in his lifestyle.
Galatians 5:16-17 (NKJV) – “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.”
Here's an area where people may not think that this is where repentance would be needed, but there was a matter of gluttony in a particular brother. And some people say, does a guy have to repent of gluttony? You better believe he does. If it's found in your lifestyle put a knife to your throat, the proverbs speak of. So this man was going to become an office bearer in our church and he had all of the qualifications for a deacon on every sentence.
And we talked through it and he'd been in the church for years, but just frankly speaking the man was overweight. And we spoke to him as elders and another brother in the church spoke to him as well. And this brother's probably dropped 65 pounds. And it was amazing to see his diligence. And I mean, the guy lost half himself now and his weight.
It's a beautiful thing. But he's a man of God who feared God. And when you spoke to him, he didn't kick back. He said, I really need to get hold of this. And he dropped the weight.
And it's just a beautiful thing. But he repented. And he's made restoration. And he's made various changes in his life. You
