What does repentance look like in the home?

Dennis Gunderson explains in this video that it is such a great blessing to have one’s transgressions covered and forgotten. David spoke much about the blessings of God's forgiveness. He also declares how he lived in misery when he tried to hide his sin.  

We as fathers must show a transparent spirit in front of our spouses and children about own struggles with sin. As we do family worship with our families, when sin is uncovered, we should see that as the providence of God and freely confess it in front of our families.

Psalm 32:1-2 (NKJV) – “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is no deceit.”

What does repentance look like in the home? Well, you know, one thing that comes to mind, I'm thinking of Psalm 32 where David talks about how blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. He stated that after a grave fall into sin concerning Bathsheba and her husband and all the terrible things that he did in association with that. Well, David wrote that psalm and no doubt everybody in his household knew all about it. And we're very aware that he was now the one proclaiming, you know, it's a great blessing to have your transgression forgiven.

And he speaks later in that psalm about how when I was silent about my sin, when I was hiding my sin, he said, I lived in misery. I was grieved all day long. And we've got to, in our homes, show a transparent spirit before our wife and children about our own struggles with sin, our willingness to turn from them. I think it involves if we're going to be doing family worship and as We engage in regular readings of the word together. When sin is uncovered, it's amazing how often I've told many dads that you'll find when you have the habit of family worship that the chapter you read today will talk about the sin you committed in front of the family yesterday.

And it's going to happen plenty of times. And when that does, you've got to see that as the providence of God and open up and recognize that He's doing that in order for you to have opportunity to put on display how real and impactful the Word of God is.
