What is an issue present in many churches today?
Kevin Swanson explains in this video that in many churches today, there aren’t enough people that are concerned about sin. They do not have the right perspective about sin. Those who demonstrate false repentance are merely concerned about themselves.
But, a person who truly repents understands how grievous their sin is in the eyes of God and hates their sin because God hates sin.
Hebrews 10:26 (NKJV) – “For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins.”
Well, I don't know if the church understands what true repentance looks like because we just don't have too many publicans on their faces crying out, God have mercy on me, a sinner. We don't have people mourning over their sins. We don't have them tearing their clothes. And we don't see them with the right perspective concerning themselves in respect to God. This I think is the issue, this is the difference between true and false repentance.
False repentance is concerned about man but doesn't maintain that concern about themselves and about man apart from their perspective of God. So true repentance brings into consideration the vertical. They come to this place of repentance because they understand what they look like and what their relationship looks like in respect to God.
