How does repentance change the way a person thinks and acts?
Kevin Swanson explains in this video that when a person is saved, their perspective is changed. Their faith is linked with repentance. They begin to realize that they are a lost sinner. They see Christ as the Lamb of God who bears the sins of the world and takes on the wrath of God. They understand that sin is a grievous sin against God.
In essence, salvation leads to a radical change of mind. This change of mind leads to a subsequent change of life.
2 Corinthians 7:10 (NKJV) – “For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.”
When a man comes to Jesus, he can't just come in faith. He also has to have a radical change in perspective. At one point, he could care less what Jesus did on the cross, because he didn't care about his sin. He didn't care that it was a violation of God's holy law and it would merit for him eternal damnation. He didn't care about those things.
But now, as he has this change of mind and perspective, he begins to shake, he begins to tremble, he begins to realize that he is a lost, damned sinner in the face of Almighty God, a holy and a righteous and a just God. And he stands at the cross of Jesus, he no longer sees some innocent victim stabbed in the side by a Roman sword. Now he sees the Lamb of God who is bearing the sins of the world. He's taking on the wrath of God and he's satisfying the justice of Almighty God on that cross in his stead such that he would not have to face the burning flames of hell fire forever and ever. See, that's a whole different mindset now.
Now we have a man who's got a change of mind towards himself, towards his sin, towards atonement. And now with that change of mind, you're inevitably going to see a change of life.
