What are elements of repentance?

Jason Dohm explains in this video that Proverbs 28:13 gives us a good definition of repentance: “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”

There are three elements of repentance that can be extrapolated from the verse: the first element involves confessing sin and acknowledging that you have sinned. The second element involves the forsaking of sin. The third element of repentance is that it is a matter of the heart and involves a willingness to bring it to the light.

2 Timothy 2:22 (NKJV) - "Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart."

I think Proverbs 28 verse 13 gives us a very good definition of repentance. And I'm going to argue from this verse that there are three elements that you find here. Two are explicit. One is implied. This is Proverbs 28 13.

It says, he who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. So here are the two explicit elements of repentance that we find here. Confessing sin, saying, acknowledging and then saying that you have sinned, and then forsaking, forsaking sin. And then I think the third element of repentance that we see in Proverbs 28 13 is that it's a matter of the heart. This has to do with not hiding sin but being willing to bring it to the light.

The heart is engaged here. It's not forced but it is a matter of the heart. So I think when you have those three elements, it's from the heart. It is in name and We have these three elements. It's from the heart.
