What are the effects of repentance upon the believer?

Paul Carrington explains in this video that when a person is truly repentant, their heart is turned to the Word of God. They want to hear what the preacher has to say because they want the Word of God to guide them. They desire more of God.

A repentant person is not concerned about their own reputation but they want to learn more about Christ and see Christ as so valuable. Their view of worship is changed. A repentant person wants to worship God, sees Christ as so valuable, and acknowledges that there is nothing better than to know God, to walk in His ways, and to be pleasing in His sight.

Romans 6:4 (NKJV) – “Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

Other things that happen is a man's heart is turned towards the Word of God. He hungers and thirsts for the Word of God when he reads it. He wants to hear what the preacher has to say, not so that he can repeat it back to people and say what a good boy I am or how smart I am and sound eloquent, but so that he can have the Word of God guarding him and guiding him and rebuking him. He wants more of God and he's willing to be stripped down week after week by hearing that word. He's not looking to coddle himself or herself but they simply want more of Christ and it's it's that hunger, it's that thirst.

One of the biggest areas I think of reformation in a man or woman's heart would be worship. You want to worship God and you see Christ as so valuable. He becomes so precious to you that when you read his word it might even bring tears to your eyes at times. And when you read about what he's done in the lives of those of old, you begin to take confidence and you see that there is nothing better than to know this God and to love him and to walk in his ways and to be pleasing in his sight and one day to hear those words, well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of the Lord.
