What leads to reformation within the church and family?

Kevin Swanson explains in this video that there can be no reformation of life or family without the reformation of heart or mind. This reformation of the mind comes about by the Word of God. We need a radical shift in the way that we see things.

If we come to church expecting the pastor to affirm everything we’ve done or thought, whether sinful or not, it is the wrong church. And yet, churches have largely ignored the idea of repentance. We need to desire that people come to a shift in their mindset towards the law of God, sin, and the atonement.

Titus 3:4-5 (NKJV) – “But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.”

There will be no reformation of the church or no reformation of life or reformation of family without a true reformation of heart and a true reformation of mind. Basically the reformation of mind comes about through the renewal of the mind, by the transformation of the mind, by the reassessing of the word of God and the understanding of the word of God and the implanting of the word of God into our minds, and that brings about a tremendous change of perspective. We walk into the church service, we need to be ready for a change of mind. We need a radical shift in the way that we see things. If we come into church expecting the pastor to affirm everything that we've ever thought, then we're coming into a church that is not the repentance community church that Jesus would recommend for you.

It's interesting that no church is named repentance community church, isn't it? We see the faith community church, we find grace Baptist church, but where is the repentance Baptist church? Where do we have the repentance community churches? Well, repentance is largely ignored today because it's not important. We want to see people come to what we call an epistemological shift in their mindset towards the things of God, towards the law of God, towards the nature of sin, towards Jesus and the atonement.
