What did the Reformation give to Christians?

Joel Beeke explains in this video that the Reformation gave to Christians a “head, heart, and hand theology.” Roman Catholicism did not allow an individual to study the Bible for themselves – rather, they were forced to comply with the teachings of the Pope. But, Christianity and the Reformation helped individuals to realize that they do not need the permission of a Pope to read and study Scripture. The Reformation helps us to recognize that a mindless Christianity is a spineless Christianity.

Christianity also feeds the heart and hands of an individual and moves them to godly piety. They desire to live our lives for God. The Reformation is all about Christ. His sacrifice motivates our feet and our hands. Believers desire to spread the Gospel around the world and do missions because the church that doesn’t evangelize will fossilize.

Matthew 5:16 (NKJV) – “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

The Reformation gives to us a head, heart, hand theology. It informs the mind. You see, in Roman Catholicism, you're just dependent on the Pope and the bishops and you do what they say, you believe the way they think you should believe. But in the Reformation, we're handed this beautiful testimony that we've got to think for ourselves And we've got to understand the doctrines of grace flowing out of the Bible ourselves. So it feeds the mind the Reformation does know it recognizes that a mindless Christianity is a spineless Christianity and then it feeds the heart and it moves us to godly piety and to want to live our whole lives for this wonderful gracious God in the Lord Jesus Christ and solace Christus I mean the Reformation is all about Jesus being our mediator our Lord our Savior our elder brother our kinsmen our all and in all and that in turn motivates our feet and our hands.

So, heart is motivated by the mind, the hands and feet are motivated by the heart and the mind, and we go out and we want to spread the gospel around the world. We want to evangelize and do missions because the church that doesn't evangelize will fossilize. You
