How should a repentant person fight against sin?

Paul Carrington explains in this video that repentance involves the crying out to God for deliverance from sin. It does not involve minimizing or compromising with sin. They cleave to God. They are desperate and know if they try to fight sin without God, they are doomed. 

The Israelites lived amongst many enemies, but instead of relying on God to defeat them as He instructed them to do, they made agreements and alliances with them. They did not trust in God and did what they thought was most helpful. But, in time, their enemies came back and overtook them. 

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) – “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” 

It looks like a man or woman who is in their closet and they're struggling against sin, cleaving to God. When you ask the question of what does repentance look like, or reformation look like an individual, the first scripture that comes to mind is when the Lord Jesus Christ says, you know, from the time of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffers violence and the violent take it by force. And I remember hearing Paul Washer making reference to the fact that that reference to violence has to do with desperation. It has to do with someone who is so desperate like a person floating in the ocean clinging to a plank of wood. They know that if they let go, they are undone.

And I think that's what Reformation looks like. Lord, I can't do it, but please help me. Free me from this sin or help me to be courageous, to be able to speak in the workplace or help me to be able to get rid of this area in my life. Maybe it's anger or maybe it's another problem that you've been wrestling with for years and you don't give up on wrestling with God against that. You don't make an alliance with your sins like the children of Israel made alliances with those the Eitz in the land in the book of Judges.

You know they didn't conquer them as they were told but they they kind of said hey you go over there and what we see over time is those Eitz came back and overtook them And I think reformation in an individual's life looks like brutal warfare against sin. It looks like warfare against vice. And it takes place in the closet.
