What does godly repentance involve?

Kevin Swanson explains in this video that biblical repentance is a complete shift of mind and direction – it is a shift in our mind concerning our perception of ourselves, God, sin, redemption, and of Christ. We need to have a complete, radical shifting of our minds.

Repentance is absolutely essential to salvation. The Holy Spirit regenerates the heart. This change of heart must inevitably result in a change of mind that leads to a change of life. This changing of life is a fruit of repentance. 

Proverbs 28:13 (NKJV) – “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”

Well, I think biblical repentance is a complete change of mind or change of perspective. It is to shift directions. It is a shift in our minds concerning our perceptions of God, our perceptions of ourselves, our perceptions of sin, our perceptions of redemption, our perceptions of Jesus. We need to have a complete radical shift in our mind set. It comes out of the powerful work of the Holy Spirit of God that regenerates the heart, but the change of heart must inevitably result in the change of mind.

And then the change of mind, that is repentance, will inevitably result in a change of life. Now, we can't convolute these things into the same thing. Regeneration, repentance, and the change of life that follows, that is the fruit of repentance, are three different things. Let's be sure that we keep these things distinct. But repentance is absolutely essential to salvation.
