What should Christians today be learning from the Reformation?
Rob Ventura explains in this video that many Christians today would agree that many of the doctrines came out of the Reformation, they are so far removed from the Reformation. In short, we have grown far away from the Protestant Reformation.
But, there is much to be gleaned from the Reformation. Christians today still need to hear the true Gospel, be exhorted to repent, and hear about the Church. While the Reformation did occur hundreds of years ago, the doctrines based on Scripture that resulted from it are still just as relevant today.
Numbers 23:19 (NKJV) - "God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?"
Yeah, I mean certainly we could begin with the solas and our day. You know, you meet many Christians and they say, you know, well we're evangelicals and by that we mean gospel believing. But when we go back and we say, so where do these truths come out of? Most would say the Reformation, but they have been so far, they are so far removed rather from the Reformation. So again, when you talk about Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide and Christ alone etc.
People those things are so far from people's minds. When you talk about justification by faith alone today you have the sinners prayer which basically replaces the call to repent and and believe and that we are justified by faith alone. So I think that today people have moved very far from the things of the Protestant Reformation and we need to go back to those things. We need to hear the solas again. We need to hear repentance and faith.
We need to hear the gospel. We need to hear doctrines of election and the coming of Christ. Those are all reformational truths. We need to hear about the church, very important, another thing that came out of the Reformation. You
