How should Christians more effectively evangelize unbelievers?
Kevin Swanson explains in this video that an effective way to evangelize is to preach the Word of God in a public forum and actually interact and converse with people. Many times, people will simply pass out a tract but not take the time to sit down with an individual and open up the Scripture or pray with them.
We see in Scripture a pattern of individuals actually preaching the Gospel to an individual or to a crowd. We see interaction and conversations between believers and unbelievers. We see believers using Scripture to rebut the ideas and arguments of unbelievers. While evangelizing in this manner may take time and effort, it is something we are called to do as Christians and the reward is great, for the harvest truly is plentiful.
Mark 16:15 (NKJV) – “And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Our Lord's last command is our first priority. In the church, in the family, in the city, to the ends of the earth. Join us in October for White Under Harvest. What is the difference between discipleship and evangelism? Distinguishing between discipleship and evangelism is a problem.
People see that evangelism is something different. Sometimes people drag nets, but they won't pull the fish into the boat. That's a problem. When you have people out there doing what I call kamikaze evangelism, that is, they run in and they throw a track on the table and they split, and there's no conversation whatsoever, you wonder if there's ever going to be much that penetrates into the hearts and minds of people out there. I think the preaching of the Word of God is a primary means whereby people come to the knowledge of the truth.
It's not going to be through tracts. And we have put a lot of resources into tracts, a lot of time into passing out tracts, a lot of time into door-to-door evangelism. The preaching of the Word of God in the public forum is probably the most effective means by which people are converted and brought to a saving knowledge of Christ. Let's get the word out by means of the preaching. That's Romans 10.
