How does a Christian view the law of God differently after being saved?

Jason Dohm explains in this video that for believers, the law does not condemn them. God has changed roles. For the unbeliever, who call "good" the things that God declares are evil, God is a righteous, holy, all-powerful judge who condemns them. He uses his law to bring condemnation.

For the Christian, God is now Father. You have been adopted into His family. Just as children desire to please their father, believers want to learn how to please God. His law is to teach you what pleases Him. God, through His Word and Law, communicates the things He loves and the things He hates. The law puts in writing what God calls as good.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

For believers, the law is no longer a condemning factor, a thing that brings condemnation. This is Paul in Romans 8, there is now therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. So the law doesn't condemn us. God has changed roles. For the unbeliever, he is a righteous, holy, all-powerful judge who is condemning, and He uses his law to bring that condemnation.

For the Christian, that is not God to you. God is now Father. You've been adopted into his family. You have been given a spirit that cries out, Abba, Father. And now, His law is to teach you what pleases Him.

Children want to please their Father. God, through His Word, through His law, is communicating the things that He loves and the things that He hates. One dangerous thing for mankind is we tend to call what God says is good evil and call what God says is evil good. The law actually helps us in that because it puts in stone, literally with the Ten commandments, but in black and white, in writing, and something we can always refer back to, the things that God says is good so we don't call those things evil. And the things that God has said are evil so we don't end up calling them good.

Isaiah 50 actually gives a warning. It says, woe to those who call evil good and good evil. And so the law of God is so precious to the Lord's people for that reason. It helps us understand what's pleasing to our Father, what would make Him happy. Thank you.
