How do we battle insincerity and hypocrisy in our lives?
Kevin Swanson explains in this video that in many Christian families, there is often a lack of authenticity. We see insincerity in worship and hypocrisy within the home. Fathers and mothers model this to their children and their children pattern themselves after their parents.
The solution to insincerity is to confess sin, strive for transparency before God and others, and use Scripture to determine areas of insincerity. God demands that all insincerity be wiped out. The faithful preaching of the Word of God convicts us of hypocrisy, a lack of love for God, and a lack of true faith. Families need more faith and true love that manifests itself in proper obedience.
Matthew 7:3-5 (NKJV) - "And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."
What we are seeing is a breakdown in authenticity. We're finding more hypocrisy within Christian families, demonstrated by fathers and mothers, taken up by their own children. And so generationally, we see hypocrisy working out. In other words, previous generations had the form, but they lacked the heart. What we need is to retain the heart and to eliminate all insincerity and worship.
That means we're going to have to confess sins. That means more transparency before God, before others. That means that we need to evaluate ourselves by the word and by the Spirit as to where there is insincerity, and God will demand that all insincerity be wiped out, and we need to go after it ourselves. I believe the facades are coming down. As the Word of God is being preached, we're finding that there was hypocrisy within fundamentalism and Reformed Christianity.
There was insincerity. There was a lack of love for Christ and true faith at the heart. What God is doing right now is convicting us of this, and we find families everywhere crying out to God for more faith and for more true love that will manifest itself in proper forms, in proper obedience to Christ. But without the heart of it, without faith and true love, we don't have anything. Thank you.
