What does holiness look like in the everyday life of a father or husband?

Joel Beeke explains in this video that a father demonstrates holiness when he prays with his wife, prays with his children, prays in family worship, and prays spontaneously, such that his children and his wife feel that he is constantly in prayer. He suggests that our first response to the joys and sorrows of life should be to go to God in prayer. In essence, holiness is steeped in prayer and humility.

Secondly, a husband and father also portrays holiness when he has the utmost respect for the Word of God and fears God in that he fears God more than he does man. He asks, “What would God want us to do?” instead of seeking the advice of his friends. As a father and husband, do you find that your life is bathed in prayer and that you fear and revere the Word of God more than you do the opinions of others?

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NKJV) – “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

What does holiness look like in a father and a husband? Probably quite a bit different from what it looks like in me. I feel often very unholy as a father and a husband. But I think I'd have to begin with prayer. Holiness is steeped in prayer and humility.

I just had a really rough time you know The car wouldn't start on the highway and I was so afraid and I God spared me But I'm just so overwhelmed and begins to cry. First thing I do is put my arm around and say honey. Let's pray about this Let's thank the Lord or There's some need the first response is always let's pray Secondly a holy husband and father is going to be one who has utmost respect for the Word of God and the fear of God and sets the tone in the home for a childlike fear of God.

And as John Brown said, the best definition of a childlike fear of God is to esteem the smiles of God to be of greater weight than the smiles of men, and to esteem the frowns of God to be of greater weight than the frowns of men. So the home is going to be pervaded by this spirit of from the father and down What does God want me to do? What would God think of this? What would God say about that? Sometimes my kids ask me not so much now because they're older, But when they were in the mid teens you know dad can I can I do that?

Can I go and do this thing and say it was something a bit risque? I would just look at them and say well. What do you think? And they'd he haul around a little bit. You know sometimes And then I'd say You know what if you can get down on your knees and ask God's blessing About that you can do it see that makes them think like You know can I really do this with a favor of God so then they make their own?

Decision and often then they'll say you know what dad and I think I'll go be with so and so tonight, or something. And I've got my way with them without saying to them, no. And here's why, here's four reasons why. But just trying to convey the spirit of the fear of God.
