How are we to grow in holiness? In this video, Craig Houston describes one way we can strive to grow in holiness. Specifically, he discusses 1 Timothy 2 and 1 Peter 3 and explains that they describe women who adorn themselves with godliness. Holiness is on display from the inside out – a woman should be adorned with a kind of holiness that comes from being wholly devoted to the Lord. With that devotion and that desire for holiness in the inner man, it is naturally evident outwardly. A revealing of the beauty of holiness. Although this idea does involve clothing, it also has to do with how our life, in general, is adorned. The words we speak in life – they can bring life or death. All of that comes from inside. Instead of being focused on how we look or how we act, we should ask how our life is adorned with holiness coming from the inward man. How does it manifest itself on the outside? We should seek to walk in holiness and encourage our children to do the same. 1 Peter 3:3-4 (NKJV) – “Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”

1 Peter, 1 Timothy 2 and 1 Peter 3 are in relation to women who adorn themselves with Godliness and it's really about holiness being on display from the inside out, and that a woman is to be adorned as are men, but my focus, because of the text, is with regards to women being adorned with a kind of holiness that is not about outward show, it's about the inward man being wholly devoted to the Lord and that with that devotion and that desire for holiness in the inward man it naturally works itself out into the outward manifestation of that person. So revealing the beauty of holiness and how it adorns, which literally comes with the word Cosmo, has to do with to decorate, to arrange in beautiful fashion. And so it's not a lesson or a lecture or a message about clothing per se, though it will include the issue of modesty and masculinity, femininity, but it really also has to do with how our life is adorned. The words that we speak, for instance, so adorn our life. They're words that can bring death or words that can bring life.

All of that comes from inside, right? It's not it's not from the outside in, it's from the inside out. And so that's really the focus is how our life is adorned with holiness coming from the inward man being wholly devoted to Christ, seeking to walk in holiness, and how that manifests itself on the outside of us or the things that adorn our life and how that is beautiful.
