How can we better incorporate the fear of God in family worship?
During our times of family worship, Kevin Swanson explains that it is important to speak of God's greatness and speak with reverential language – we’re in the presence of God. Often, we forget who we’re addressing when we do pray and we need to recognize who we’re speaking to before we open our mouths. It can be too easy to run through a prayer out of routine and not honor God with our words as we ought.
Psalm 19:14 (NKJV) – “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.”
Well, I think that families ought to be doing family worship each day. I think it's important to kneel from time to time. It's important to perhaps mention that God is very great, God is one to be feared, and speak with reverential language in the presence of God. Sometimes our prayers become too rote. We kind of slur the Heavenly Father in Jesus' name and we run through that prayer and we don't pause for a moment and recognize the God whom we're addressing.
We're stepping into the very portals of heaven, into the throne room of God. And we need to recognize who we are speaking to before we open our mouth in prayer.
