Do you strive to please God by repenting of sin and pursuing righteousness? Or have you become complacent with sin and your affections are elsewhere, instead of being fixed on God? Joel Beeke explains that as Christians, we know that sin greatly displeases God. Consequently, we should earnestly pray that we would have a childlike fear of God and desire to please Him with our actions and words. We ought to pray for strength to mortify sin in our life and live our lives only for Him. We ought to seek to put to death every sin and pursue Christlikeness. Colossians 3:5 (NKJV) – “Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”

I love my wife, she's a very special woman, but if I displease her, I just feel rotten to the core. And I want to please her every day. And that's how a Christian feels about God. And so I want to reckon myself dead into sin because I know that sin is the one thing that really displeases my God. So I want to walk in childlike fear and in the good pleasure of God and I want to please Him and feel His favor, His mercy in Christ to me.

So please give me strength, Lord. Help me to put a sword through every sin. I wish every sin in me were dead. Help me to kill it, to mortify it, and to live to you
