When people abandon the fear of God, they land in the culture of chaos. Why? Because when the fear of God is eliminated, honor toward man is destroyed. Without the fear of God there can be little honor and obedience to the other authorities in our lives. A breakdown of the fear of God brings a broken culture in the form of broken families, churches and nations. The fear of God, you have no reason to fear the magistrate, no reason to obey the civil magistrate, no reason to obey mother and father. In fact, the same words for obey and for fear are used both for God and for parents in the Old Testament. We are to fear our parents, we're to honor our parents, and we're to obey our parents. And we're to do the same with God. We're to fear God, honor God, and obey God.

Well, if God doesn't exist, if we don't fear God, we have no reason to fear our parents or to obey our parents as his appointees, as his magistrates that he's appointed in the home. The same thing applies to the civil magistrate. And that's why, without the fear of God, you get a nation that doesn't honor their parents, a broken culture, and of course, radical rebellion, and sometimes anarchy.
