A low view of God makes a man a stranger to the true God and therefore a stranger to godly fear. But if a man seeks for God in the scriptures, he will learn the fear of the Lord. David said, “come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord” (Ps 34:11), and “Establish your word to Your servant, who is devoted to fearing you” (Ps 119:38). If you have a low view of God and little fear of God, it is because you have little exposure to the Word of God. Do you want to grow in godly fear? Run to the Holy Scriptures.

If I have a very low view of God, a very common, general evangelical view of God that is somewhere just above maybe Santa Claus, then ideas of holiness and fear, ideas of trembling and respect are going to be very foreign to me. God is going to appear to me more to be something like a grandfather figure that really doesn't take justice or sin that seriously. But if I will get into the scriptures, A wise pastor many years ago told me this. He said that he would take his entire church through this series in which they would study through the entire Bible in a year. And he said it was amazing.
He would have people coming up to him and saying, when I got through the first five books of the law, I was trembling. I never knew God was like that. So what happened? They come to know the fear of the Lord by simply considering God's inspired revelation. It all goes back to knowing him.
