What is the purpose of the Law? In this video, Jason Dohm explains that the Law of God has different functions for unbelievers and believers. For unbelievers, it helps to show them their sin and drive them to Christ. It condemns us so we run to God for mercy and pardon.

James 2:10-11 (NKJV) - "For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law."

The law has multiple uses, not just one use. It actually has different functions for unbelievers and unbelievers. It's entitled to be a crushing weight on an unbeliever that would help the unbeliever to see their desperate need for mercy and to drive them to Christ. That's why in Galatians 3 Paul says that the law is a tutor to bring us to Christ. In other words, it condemns us so that we go to God for mercy and for pardon.

And pardon is offered to us through the finished work of Jesus Christ.
