In this message, Kevin Swanson speaks of the inadequacy of the Church's youth programs and the importance of teaching fathers to bring up their children in the training and admonition Lord. He says that it is the responsibility of the parents to disciple their children, not the church and when parents begin to do this, the results are enormous
Well, we started the church without Sunday schools, without youth groups, nine years ago. We just took all the props away and we said, Dad, you're it. Bring your children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. And so four to five years into this, I get a call from Barna. George Barna, he's the pollster for Christian churches.
So Barna calls me. He's concerned about the 80% problem. They're running away from the church and Barna's been writing on this. So one of his guys calls me and says, what are you guys doing? You started a church in Castle Rock, Colorado.
How's it going? How are the Sunday schools going? We don't have any Sunday schools. Youth groups? Haven't started any youth group.
How's youth camp? We don't have any of those. Vacation Bible School? None of those. He went down the list.
It was sort of embarrassing. I'm not doing anything. Sorry. None of that. Sorry.
He said, well, aren't you concerned about what's happening? I said, yeah, I'm concerned. My heart's going out to the 80%. We got to do something different. I said four or five years ago, we decided to do something different.
We went to the word of God. He said, wow. I says, yeah, I cracked the book to Ephesians 6. And Paul's got a youth program right there. He says, it's really easy.
All you do is you stand up and you say to the dads, hey dads bring these children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Teach them as you walk by the ways as you rise up as you lie down. And then you turn to the kids and you say, listen to him, obey him, Honor your father and mother and the Lord, for this is right." He says, that's it. He says, wow, that's incredible. I says, yeah, it's really cheap.
It doesn't cost hardly anything. You don't have to hire a youth pastor. You got all these other youth pastors in the church and they're all moms and dads and they're doing the work for you. He says, does it work? I says, does it work?
Praise God, I haven't seen anybody walk away. In nine years we're not seeing kids apostatized. It's not happening in our church. God is blessing us in unbelievable ways. I don't know what revivals look like, but my guess is this is one of them.
These children are honoring their parents through their teenage years. We aren't seeing teenage rebellion. None. We're not seeing it. It's exceptional if it ever happens.
They're honoring their parents all the way through the courtships. They're not fornicating. They're not even kissing to the altar. Marriage after marriage after marriage, I'm seeing purity. Suddenly we're restoring biblical purity, honor of parents, as the standard of normalcy.
And we replace dysfunctionality with the biblical form of functionality.
