The speaker, Jeff Pollard, discusses the importance of maintaining a Christ-centered view of the family, rather than idolizing them. He emphasizes the need to love Christ above all things and prioritize our love and service according to the Word of God. While it is important to fight against anti-family and satanic forces, we must not lose sight of our first love, Jesus Christ.
Music Because of some of the conferences that I've been involved in, There are those from around the country who have called and asked me questions and wanted to know about Mount Zion Bible Church, our congregation, and one of the questions a man called and asked was, are you a family centered church? And I said, no. We are a Christ centered church with what we hopefully believe to be a high and biblical view of the family. People throughout history have idolized their children. You read the Puritans and it's one of the warnings they'll regularly give is, do not idolize your children.
They are gifts to you from God, but you must never love them in a way that displaces your love and service to the living God. Love Christ above all things, and then love your wife, your husband, your children, your extended family according to the Word of God. So I think it's very easy because our families are tangible. We see them, we hear them. They make us laugh, they make us cry, all of those types of things.
It's very easy to become more focused upon them. And in a day in which we're fighting so desperately against anti-family and satanic forces, it's very easy to focus so much on attempting to reform the family that we lose sight of our first love, the Lord Jesus Christ.
