Yes, looking at the enormous task of providing civil administration, the Arab missionaries decided to call the colonial office in London that they can actually send colonial administrators who would have the appropriate manpower to administer justice, collect taxes, the usual thing you know about government, so that they could then concentrate on the gospel. So I think Malawi has a very, very unique place in history, that it's a state that was actually established by the church. So the church is the bedrock of the state. And to this day, whatever the church says, the government listens. The government cannot afford to downplay.

The church doesn't have arms, doesn't have forces, but it has the moral authority. It really holds the hearts of the people. And whatever it says, people pay attention. In the recent past, governments have been brought down for disobeying or showing content to the court, to the position that the church has taken. The church has spoken against homosexuality, against abortion, against the creeping secularism.

And it's a very, very strong moderating influence in this current world we live in.
