What does it mean that God is wise?

The concept of wisdom is the idea of skill, ability, and taking the best course of action. Wisdom is the skillful use of understanding and knowledge. Being made in the image of God, we have the ability to learn the wisdom of God.

Proverbs teaches that when God created the world, He did it with the use of wisdom. It is portrayed in scripture as almost a tool. We know what it means to use wisdom in the world. But now compound that to think of God, Who is the chiefest of all beings, using wisdom. It is a beautiful picture of another element of this great, glorious God we serve.

What does it mean that God is wise? Well the word wise or the concept of wisdom is the idea of skill. It has the idea of ability, the ability to accomplish certain things. It has to do with the best course of action. This wonderful biblical trivium of education, as it were.

So we think of knowledge, which are inputs, and we think of understanding, which is the process of that knowledge. And then wisdom is the skillful use of those things that we've brought in and processed, and now we're making application of those things. So being made in the image of God, we have the ability to learn the wisdom of God. Proverbs even teaches that when God created the world, He did it with the use of wisdom, almost like it's portrayed in the scripture as a tool. And so we know what it means in the world to use wisdom personally.

Like if we do a job, a carpenter who makes a mark on a board and he needs to cut that, He has to have the skill to follow that line, and then he assembles the wall, and then he builds the room, builds the house. And so the use of wisdom is a wonderful thing. We see that in the world. And so now compound that to think of God, who is the chiefest of all beings, using wisdom. And it's just a beautiful picture of another element of this great and glorious God that we serve.

So we find wonderful comfort. And we see all of these attributes of God blending together to, once again, to give us such rest and peace and confidence in the God of the Bible who has revealed Himself. You
