What happens to you when you see the holiness of God? with Tom Ascol
We will come to understand our own sinfulness. The more we recognize this and the holiness of God (the God who saved us through His Son) the more we will say like Isaiah, "Here am I! Send me!" Our lives belong to Him and there is nothing that He can ask of us that would be too great.
If we come to understand more of God in His holiness, we come to understand our place in His world. We can only stand with reverence and awe that He would have us as His children and send His Son to die for us. What amazing kindness and mercy!
The more we see the holiness of God, the more we will come to understand our own sinfulness. The more we recognize the holiness of God, the holiness of the God who in Jesus Christ has saved us and reconciled us to himself, the more like Isaiah we will say, here am I, send me. Our lives belong to him and we want to live for him. There's nothing that he could ever ask of us, require of us, commission us to do that would be too great or too significant for us to attempt because He is holy. So to come to understand God more and more, to understand God in His holiness, is to come to understand more and more our own place in His world and our relationship to Him.
And it is to be increasingly overwhelmed, made to just stand with reverence and awe at the fact that this God, the holy God, who is a consuming fire, who cannot in any way countenance sin, would have us as His children, would send His Son into the world to live and to die for us, and through the life and death and resurrection of Jesus reconcile us to Himself. That is an amazing kindness and mercy of the Holy God.
