His Separateness
He is completely separated from all creation. He is in a category all by Himself. There are no other gods. There is nothing else worthy of worship. God is supremely holy. Isaiah 40:20 We are image bearers of God, but it is faint shadow.
He Is Utterly Sin-Free
God cannot be the author of any sin. God and sin are totally antithetical. In the holiness of God, you have absolute purity and that means that God can only allow us into fellowship with Him if someone could satisfy God's holy justice on our behalf. That someone would have to be as perfect as God, have obeyed the law perfectly, and pay for my sins with His own death. That someone can only be Jesus Christ. If man is ever to be saved, God's holiness requires a total substitute.
The Indwelling of the Holy Spirit
In His Holy Spirit entering into us, we are made holy even as He is holy. It is partial in this life, but perfect in the next.
And I would explain to them that there are three major areas about God's holiness that are important to understand. Number one, God's holiness means his complete separateness, complete Separateness from all creation and all created creatures. God's in a category all by himself. No one can compare to him. There are no other gods.
There's nothing else worthy to worship. God is supremely holy. He's unique. To whom then will you liken me? Isaiah 40 verse 28 says or do I have an equal?
There's no equal. There's actually nothing to even compare to God. We are image bearers of God in knowledge righteousness and holiness when we are born again. And we have a wider sense in which we're an image of God as well and certain attributes of what man is, but it's just a faint shadow, fallen faint shadow of who God is. The second thing about God's holiness is that God is utterly, radically, superlatively sin-free.
God cannot be the author of any sin. God and sin are totally antithetical. God would ungod himself if he ever sinned once. So in the holiness of God, you have absolute purity. And that means that God can only allow us, I would tell my children that, into fellowship with Him if someone could satisfy God's holy justice on my behalf.
And that someone would have to be as perfect as God And you have to obey the law perfectly and you have to pay for all my sins somehow with his own death well, that someone can only be Jesus because no one else is perfect we're all fallen sinners and so God's holiness if man is ever to be saved, if you are ever to be saved, requires a total substitute. Now, The third thing that we need to understand about that holiness in his Holy Spirit entering into us in dwelling us so that through the spirit the Father and the Son abide with us and in us and We are made holy even as He is holy partially in this life but definitively but in the life to come He will arise from the dead perfectly holy and this is mind-blowing As holy as Christ Himself is holy. That is amazing. That seems too good to be true. But you see in that day, He will look on us and say, I see no sin in my Jacob and no transgression in my Israel for the sake of Jesus Christ.
So all our holiness is in Christ, but we are in the process of being made holy from the time we're born again. And one day it will be perfected and will be a holy people in a holy heaven with a holy triune God and holy angels. You
