How does a husband glorify God in his marriage?
Brian Borgman explains in this video that husbands glorify God by loving their wives as Christ loves the Church. They are to love their wife in a sacrificial way and to honor her. Husbands honor their wives before their children.
That is the starting point -- for a husband is to demonstrate that Christ-like love to his wife. It is a rare occurrence when a husband honors his wife, puts her needs before his own, and praises her in front of others. Husbands can be a great witness to others when they follow the commands of God.
Ephesians 5:25 (NKJV) - "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her"
When you come down to how does a husband glorify God in his marriage, again, if we go back to that touchstone of being and doing, as a husband, I need to be the husband that God calls me to be, which means I glorify God by loving my wife as Christ loved the church. That means I love her in a sacrificial way. I love her in a way that puts her above myself. I honor her and very importantly I honor her before my children. My children should grow up knowing that dad loves mom and that dad cherishes mom and that dad honors mom.
He doesn't make fun of her, he doesn't demean her, he doesn't say things that embarrass her, He doesn't put her down in front of the children or ever. And so the starting point for a husband is simply to have that Christ-like love towards his wife. But then also you glorify God by doing what he calls you to do, which in the case of marriage ends up being servant leadership. And again, to be a tyrant or an ogre is That's not male headship. That's a distortion.
Just as sure as passivity is a distortion, so is tyrannical dictatorship. And so servant leadership modeled by the Lord Jesus, in a sense, lived out in marriage especially before the kids is the way the husband's should glorify God in their marriages www.mytrendyphone.co.uk
