How can we better enjoy God?

Sam Waldron explains in this video that we cannot fully enjoy God unless we know Him and embrace who He is. The more we understand His attributes, the more our awe, wonder, and worship of Him increases.

Specifically, in times of trial, we must understand that God has a purpose for everything and that He is more concerned with our holiness more than our happiness. Oftentimes, in trials, we need to understand that God's purposes are above our understanding and that He is using it for His glory.

Philippians 3:10-11 (NKJV) - "that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead."

What does the knowledge of God have to do with the enjoyment of God? Well, obviously we don't enjoy anything unless we have some understanding of it. And at many points in the Christian life we will not enjoy God until we understand who He is and embrace who He is. And one of the things we have to do in this, then, is to understand who He is. In times of trial, we have to understand that God is not our Santa Claus in the skies.

He has a purpose that He is fulfilling and He is more concerned with our holiness than our happiness. And he also knows that unless we are made holy, we will not be happy. So many times in trial, we need to understand that God's purposes are mysterious. We need to understand that He is inscrutable. We also have to understand that He is wise and good.

And even in the darkest times of our life, He is working out His good will for us. So we need in those times then to humble ourselves into the mighty hand of God, knowing that he will exalt us in due time.
