What is a Christian to do in times of spiritual dryness?

Dr. Carlton McLeod explains in this video that we each have times in our lives where we are spiritually dry. He encourages people who find themselves in those periods to be faithful, to continue to obey God, and to read Scripture and pray.

Our walk with God should not be dependent on how we feel. We need to trust the Lord to bring us joy and to bring us a passion for Scripture and the things of God and continue to obey God and be faithful in what He has called us to do. In turn, God is honored by your obedience.

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) - "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."

I know that the essence of walking with Him is to enjoy Him forever, but I do have, I think we all have gone through seasons where prayer wasn't as passionate and study wasn't as vibrant, perhaps even church attendance. We felt like we were going through the motions and what I have encouraged myself to do at times and what I encourage others to do is keep pressing through. I know that might sound cliche but keep doing the things that you know you're supposed to. Our walk with the Lord is not completely based on how we feel at the moment. So it's not as if when we feel happy and joyful any later we read and study and pray, but when we feel down we don't read and study and pray.

In fact it's precisely in those moments where we feel a bit distant and feel a little passionless that we continue to walk in obedience. We continue to to read and trust the Lord to change these feelings within us. We see many examples in the scriptures of those who got called and those who walk with the Lord and they had Many a trial many a day where they were their hearts were Disquieted within them or their their minds weren't completely where they want them to be or they were dealing with an enemy or dealing with a sickness or dealing with a war or whatever and they continue to cry out to God. In fact, some of the most powerful psalms we have were in times where the psalmist felt exactly like that, passionless or powerless or unable to discern God's will or didn't know or didn't afraid of the future and so my admonition would be keep doing the things that you know are right. Keep praying, keep reading, keep studying even if the feelings don't match.

God is honored by your obedience. You
