What do you do when others praise you for your accomplishments or abilities? 

Kevin Swanson explains in this video that the entertainment culture today is very man-focused. Often, individuals boast in their strength, in their academic knowledge, or in their talent and do not give any glory to God. 

As Christians, we need to remember "not unto us, O Lord." We should be always seek to give glory to God and to give honor where it is due. Too often, we put ourselves at the center. It's easy to desire the praises of others but we must remember the true source of all of our abilities and give glory to the Creator.  

Psalms 115:1 (NKJV) - "Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us,
But to Your name give glory,
Because of Your mercy,
Because of Your truth."

The entertainment culture is all about the glory of man, and yet the glories of the world, the lusts of the world pass away, but he who does the will of the Father abides forever. That principle is happening right now with the death of Hollywood and Nashville and the popular cultural scene. So praise God that these babbles are coming down, praise God that Dagon is falling again in the temple of the Philistines. So the bottom line is man is always seeking to go to let us make a name for ourselves, let us build a tower, let us build the city, and the popular cultural scene has done that over the last hundred years. Now it's coming down.

But as Christians we need to be saying all the time, not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name be the glory for ever and ever. Amen." That's our constant thought and we should be offended when we see these great awards ceremony where God is not glorified and the gifts are not realized as coming from the Father of Lights. So let's respond that way. Popular culture is not giving God the glory. It glorifies man, as does the educational institutions of the day.

That is the fundamental problem with the culture around us. Man is at the center. God is not. And so as Christians we need to oppose that with everything in us and then give God all the glory and the praise for he's worthy of it. You
