How can we get distracted from what truly matters in life?
Rev. Robert D. McCurley explains in this video that we need to remember that the world often attempts to elevate man while diminishing God. There is also an extreme focus on ourselves rather on God and a focus on the present instead of eternity.
The world wants to pull our gaze downward and be focused on the things of this world. Instead, we need to set our minds on the Kingdom of God and heavenly matters. In short, everything that distracts from what truly is important and eternal needs to be stopped.
Colossians 3:1-3 (NKJV) - "If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God."
Young women, young men, old women, old men, we all need to be warned of this idea that the world is everything. So what's happened in our world is that we have a small God and a big man. And we need to turn right side up with the world's flung upside down. And this is true in the church as well. So what comes as a result of that is an over focus on body rather than soul and over over focus on overly focusing on time rather than eternity and focusing on ourselves rather than the Lord Jesus Christ.
So we end up with earthly mindedness and all of that And so the message of the world wants to pull our gaze downward it wants us to be captivated by the things of this world focus on the body not the soul time not the eternity self not Christ and And so we need to be warned, young ladies need to be warned, that we need to set our minds, our affections on things above where the Lord Jesus Christ is. That we need to be seeking those things which are above. We need to seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and everything that deters that everything that distracts from that every diversion that takes us from Heavenly mindedness to earthly mindedness to takes us from God centeredness to man centeredness needs to be repudiated by us. We have to be on guard as sentitels you know standing on guard against these pernicious influences some of which are subtle some of which are explicit but we need to stand on guard against those. To walk with Christ, to be near the Lord in communion and fellowship with Him.
And because of that nearness and fellowship to be transformed by the spirit into his likeness from one degree of glory to another so that our lives are reflecting the heart of God. That's David, right? To be a man after God's own heart. And so young ladies need To be cultivating this God-conscious, God-centered, Christ-exalting refusal to bend one's affections and thoughts to the passing, paltry, fleeting things of this world that everyone else is pursuing and being consumed by.
