How can a parent help their child to enjoy the Lord more?

In this video, Rev. Robert McCurley explains how parents can help their children enjoy the Lord. He emphasizes that if parents love spending time with God, meditating on His Word, and praising Him, this joy and delight will spill over and create a contagious atmosphere of Christ's presence and glory in the home. What they do often matters more than what they might say to their children.

McCurley emphasizes that this is heart work, not just external actions, and encourages parents to truly delight in the Lord themselves and let this manifest in their speech and conversations. By doing so, children will naturally desire to be excited about the Lord as well.

Luke 6:45 (NKJV) - "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks."

So the question, how does a parent help a child enjoy the Lord? The answer does not begin with a list that we create of what do we say and what do we do and so on. It actually begins with who we are. So a parent who is, who loves communion with God, who enjoys fellowship with the Lord, who meditates upon his word, who is praising him all the day long, who delights in the secret place, a parent that delights in thinking and meditating upon the glory of God and walking with him all day long. That is going to bubble up.

And it's not containable. To the contrary, it's contagious. It will end up spilling over and it fills the atmosphere of the home with the fragrance of Christ's presence and Christ's glory. And so What we need to do is for parents to become who they ought to be or profess to be as Christians before we give them any kind of instruction about here's some tidbits on things to do and not do. I mean, you think, for example, if you've read the Biography of Philip and Matthew Henry Philip is the father Matthew's the son where you read Matthew Henry's book on the pleasantness of the Christian life this comes out right there was a an atmosphere that was created where there was genuine joy in the Lord in Philip the father that spilled over not just a Matthew but to his sisters and and other siblings and So on and so this is heart work, right?

It's not just the externals of an easy checklist that we can tick. It's actually learning to enjoy the Lord ourselves, truly, sincerely delighting in Him, wanting to be near Him. That manifests itself in praise. You know, out of the heart the mouse speaks. So what we love is what we think about.

What we think about is what we talk about. And so you see this even in the world. Someone sees a sale or something that they're interested in, they're going to tell all their friends about it. The Christian who's truly walking with the Lord will be thinking about him, spiritual mindedness, and therefore will be speaking about him, spiritual conversation, And that will flood the home and affect the children in terms of what they desire to be excited about as well.
