Does the principle of modesty apply to men?
Dr. Carlton McLeod explains in this video that men must also be aware of the need for modesty. While the principle of modesty is often directed towards women, it also applies to men.
A man needs to look at his wardrobe and ask pertinent questions. Does this glorify God or does this glorify me? Am I shining forth the light of Christ as I go about my day with what I have on?
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NKJV) - "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not vour own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's."
I think the the principle of modesty which is often directed at the sisters it also applies to men. I think that men should dress in a in a circumspect way and knowing that we are supposed to be lights in the midst of darkness and that people often, you know, they see us and what we have on before they even get a chance to know us. So I think a man should make sure that he has his body covered properly. I think that he needs to look at his wardrobe and ask pertinent questions. Does this glorify God or does this glorify me?
Am I shining forth the light of Christ as I go about my day with what I have on or does my wardrobe basically say, hey look at me. And so I think if he puts Christ first as he goes to his closet, I think he'll be on the right track.
