How does entertainment take away from the glory of God?

In this video, Jason Dohm discusses how entertainment culture takes away from the glory of God in two ways. First, it diverts our affections and causes our love for entertainment to grow instead of focusing on God, who is truly worthy of our adoration. Second, it consumes our time, which has an opportunity cost, meaning that once we spend it on entertainment, we lose the opportunity to spend it on other things that may be more profitable.

While entertainment is a part of life, Dohm emphasizes that most of our time should be spent on things that are more worthwhile. Our time is limited and we must be good stewards of each minute that God has given to us. 

Psalm 90:12 (NKJV) - "So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."

The entertainment culture steals the glory of God in a couple of ways. The first way I think is it diverts our affections. Really the things that we give ourselves to causes our affections for those things to grow. And so when you're spending your time on entertainment, it causes your affections for those things to go. Really, really our affections need to be trained on God.

Why? Because He's the one who is worthy of our affections. These other things that we can have our affections grow towards like entertainment aren't really worthy of our affections. Our affections should actually be trained on God who is completely worthy of our adoration. The second thing it does is it gobbles up our time.

If you go to an Econ 101 class in college, meaning basic economics, the first thing that they teach you is about opportunity costs. Opportunity cost simply means that you, when you have a dollar, you can only spend it on one thing. Once you've spent it, you lost the opportunity to do anything else with that dollar because you don't have it anymore. You spend it. Same is true with time.

The same is true with a minute, with an hour. Once you've spent it, it's gone forever. If you spend it on entertainment, there are so many other things that you have lost the opportunity to spend it on. And so, While some of our lives is going to be spent on entertainment, most of our lives ought to be spent on things that are more profitable. You
