How can we help to make our homes a place of worship?

In this video, Kevin Swanson emphasizes the importance of defending homes as a place of worship, where families glorify and enjoy God. He encourages mothers and daughters to be the managers of their homes and to promote worship throughout the week.

Swanson argues against the worldly mindset of competition and career-mindedness. Instead, he advocates for building family economies that serve each other and apply their gifts to building up the family, without seeking to one-up each other. We ought to see our talents and gifts as coming from God and use them faithfully in the family economy.

Colossians 3:16 (NKJV) - "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

But we want to be sure that our homes are defended as a place of worship, as a place where we are serving and worshiping the true and living God. And so as moms and daughters, we want to encourage those who are maintaining the home and becoming the oikos despotēo in the home, that is those that manage the home, to remember that our purpose is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever and our homes are something of a temple in which that is maintained and that is promoted throughout the week. So let's be sure that we are bringing music, singing, hymns and psalms into our homes and be sure that we're defending our homes as a place of worship, not as a place in which we're complaining, we're giving ourselves the glory, or we're attempting to somehow become these amazing, powerful, influential, and man-glorifying creatures. That's not for us. It seems to me that the whole career-mindedness of the world is a matter of competition, a matter of one-upping the next person and gaining glory for ourselves.

That's not what we're called to do. We encourage the building of family economies, which ultimately is a means by which we serve one another in the home and indeed make some income, but really apply our gifts to building up the family economy, but not to one up one another and not to somehow engage in some competition in a large corporate structure in which we get a foot in somebody else's face and achieve ascendancy over others. That's a worldly mindset. We don't want that for our daughters or our sons, but that's what the world is trying to impose upon us. We need to resist that and realize that the family economy is a place in which our gifts will be maximized and we will not be seeing the exercise of our gifts as a means of achieving power and ascendancy over others.

That's the feminist view, that's the humanist view. We reject that with everything in us. We just simply see ourselves as those who receive gifts from God, and then we apply those talents and use those talents in the family economy as a means of being faithful to the gifts that God has given to us. So that's the right way to see the family economy and our responsibilities in the family economy. You
