What can parents do to help their children enjoy God more fully?
Sam Waldron explains in this video that parents can teach their children to enjoy the Lord and appreciate the Word of God by following the principles outlined in Deuteronomy 6. This involves diligently teaching them the precepts and Word of God, talking to them about it in different situations, and constantly dwelling on it.
Waldron emphasizes the importance of parents talking to their children about the Word of God and pointing out the wisdom, goodness, and providence of God in everyday life. They can use examples from the news and social media to illustrate the judgment of God upon sinners. By doing this, children can learn to enjoy God and glorify Him in their lives.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NKJV) - "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up."
I think one of the premier ways that a parent can teach his child to enjoy the Lord and to appreciate the Word of God is by doing what Deuteronomy 6 teaches parents to do. You should diligently Teach them to your sons, means the precepts and word of God. And so talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, when you rise up, you should bind them as a sign on your hand, they shall be as frontals on your forehead, you should write them on the doorpost of your house and on your gates. Look, I believe in family worship, but you know, I also think that's not the whole of the father and the mother's duty. They need to be talking to their children about the Word of God.
And that constant dwelling on the Word of God when they rise up, when they sit down, when they walk in the way, is infectious. It teaches children that everything has to do with God and God has to do with everything. And that's a crucial lesson for children to learn. And I think in learning that, they're going to learn to enjoy God. They're going to have parents that say to them, look at that flower, isn't that beautiful, God made that.
Aren't those stars gorgeous that we're looking at tonight? God made all of them. Isn't he great and glorious and good? And on we can go with ways that parents simply talking about things from a Christian perspective, pointing out the wisdom of God in creation, the goodness of God in creation, the providence of God in human life The illustrations of the judgment of God upon sinners that will come out in human life so when you're watching the news and when you're when you're seeing things on on Facebook, and you can talk to and with your children about the word of God, and this brings glory to God and teaches them to glorify God.
