So biblical modesty, not only as it applies to a young lady or woman, but also as it applies to a young man, begins with an internal disposition. So modesty is a condition of one's heart. And from that, it works its way out into the practical externals of how we dress and so on. If we don't recognize that and if we don't address that, then we're really on a fool's errand. Because you can dress up, for example, an attractive young lady in very modest apparel, but if her attitude is one that's flirtatious and sensual and so on, all of the proper dress will not solve the problem.

So we have to do the heart work, right? The matter of the heart is the heart of the matter. That's always the case. And so we begin with the inside, virtue. Virtue is a grace.

That's something that's the fruit of the Holy Spirit that's the work of the gospel in the soul of an individual and that being cultivated not a desire to be noticed But rather to be a means through which Christ is noticed Right where we're really pointing to the Lord and we're we're happy to be hidden as it were behind him so that he is the one who's who's shining forth. Now where that heart condition is present it will work its way out into the practical details of life. And there are times, for example with parents, when they have to use external restraints on you know what a young lady in the home is going to wear and so on, even though her heart perhaps is not where it's supposed to be. But our goal is not pharisaical superficiality, where we just get this cookie cutter thing and we're presenting an image to the world or our friends or the church or whatever. That's death.

That will lead to spiritual catastrophes. Our goal is to win the heart of our children and others with the glory of the gospel and the Lord Jesus Christ. So, in terms of the practical implications for what we wear from Genesis to Revelation, literally. The Bible tells us the primary thing is to be covered. So modesty externally means being covered, right?

The shame of nakedness from the beginning onward. And you see it all the way through. I mean, there's, you know, Peter in the boat with the other fishermen and they're fishing in the sea. But then when he goes to shore, he suits up to actually jump in the water and swim to shore to get to the Lord. So there's something there he's covering when he's going back into what could be potentially mixed audience or whatever.

So Yeah, we begin with the heart and then we work our way to the externals and the dominant principle in Scripture has to do with being covered. That applies to men and women.
