What is the proper definition of the glory of God as revealed in Scripture?

In this video, Sam Waldron discusses the definition of the glory of God based on Scripture. He highlights the importance of understanding the glory of God as the outward manifestation of His inward excellence. This definition emphasizes that God's glory is revealed through visible manifestations and serves as a revelation of His character. Waldron draws a parallel to how a woman can be seen as the glory of a man, representing an outward manifestation of his inward excellence. The glory of God, therefore, pertains to the visible and revealed expression of His excellence.

The concept of the glory of God extends in various directions within Scripture. The Son of God is described as the radiance of the glory of the Father, further emphasizing the idea of an outward manifestation. Waldron likens the glory of God to the rays of the sun, with the sun itself representing God and its rays representing the visible and revealed manifestation of His glory. Thus, when discussing the glory of God, it encompasses that which is manifest, clear, seen, visible, and revealed.

Hebrews 1:3 (NKJV) beautifully captures the radiance of God's glory in the person of Jesus Christ: "who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high."

I think a lot of people are confused about this issue of how we should define the glory of God and There may be a lot of reasons for that, but I spent a considerable amount of time thinking about How how the glory of God should be defined And here's the definition that seems to be as proper given the teaching of Scripture in general. And it's this, that the glory of God is the outward manifestation of His inward excellence. I think that this is what happens when the glory of God is declared to Moses there in Exodus 33. He's hidden in the rock and God passes by. He declares who He is.

So The glory of God has everything to do with visible manifestation, it has everything to do with the revelation of God's character, it has everything to do with the outward manifestation of God's inward excellence. You see this in other uses in Scripture as well. When Paul says in 1 Corinthians 11 that the woman is the glory of the man, what he's saying is that that this woman is in certain respects the outward manifestation of his inward excellence. And so this is what I think the glory of God means in the Bible. It means the outward manifestation of God's inward excellence.

And this goes in so many different directions. The Son of God is the radiance of the glory of the Father is the glory of God. And so you have language like radiance and so forth and the outward manifestation of the glory of God is the radiance of God. The Sun, we can put it this way, might be an illustration of God, and the manifestation of the glory of God are the rays, the outward manifestation, the shining of that sun. So when we talk about the glory of God, we're talking about something that is manifest, clear, seen, visible, revealed.

That's the glory of God.
