What does it mean to be a disciple of Christ?

Jeffrey D. Johnson defines a disciple as an apprentice, a learner aiming to grow in wisdom and knowledge. A disciple is one called by God and born again, evident through their desire to learn and obey. Being a disciple is not just about being a follower; it's about actively seeking growth and maturity, learning from the teachings of Christ and striving to emulate His example.

Matthew 10:24 (NKJV): "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.”

A disciple is an apprentice, a younger person who is learning and seeking to follow and grow and mature and seeking kind of to learn and to emulate a teacher or a professional. So it's someone who's seeking to grow in knowledge and in wisdom. It's those who won't have been called by God and born again, but those are going to be evident by those who have a desire to learn and obey, those who have a heart to be a disciple. So we're called to be disciples. We're all disciples of Christ.

And so it's those who are seeking to submit their lives as servants, as disciples or students of Jesus Christ.
