What does it truly mean to follow Christ?

In his sermon "Take Up Your Cross," Rob Ventura explores the true meaning of discipleship. Following Christ, he suggests, means consistently choosing God's will over our own desires and preferences. This is not limited to our personal lives, but extends to every aspect of our existence, whether as husbands, fathers, or professionals. Discipleship means declaring, "Lord, whatever you call me to do, I'm all in" regardless of the potential pain or joy involved.

Ventura emphasizes that God's Word is supreme in our lives. He is our Lord, our God, and his words are our guide. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we are called to obey Jesus Christ in all aspects of our lives. This evangelical obedience is not a one-time act, but a lifelong commitment to following the teachings of the Gospel. Following Christ means following "the Lamb wheresoever he goeth" as described in the book of Revelation.

Matthew 16:24 (NKJV): 'Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."'

The follow Christ means that you are regularly saying no to your old ways, you're saying no to your will, and you're constantly saying yes to God's ways and yes to God's will. Wherever God speaks to us in the Word, either as husbands, fathers, whatever it might be, those in the workplace, etc., God's Word is supreme in our lives. A disciple says, Lord, whatever you call me to do, regardless of how painful it might be, or again, most times how joyous it might be, Lord, I'm all in. I want to follow you with all that I've got, come what may. In fact, in the book of the Revelation, it tells us concerning God's people, and they follow the Lamb wheresoever he goeth.

He is Lord, he is God, what he says goes, and so help us God that by the power of the Holy Spirit we're gonna obey Jesus Christ in gospel, evangelical obedience all of our days.
